ROSSO

1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

I purchased this rig in August of 2010. I was told it came from the CA desert, and that's why there isn't much rust on it. It was a little rough when I first got it, and it still is, but here's what I've done since purchasing it-

ENGINE
I've left the stock Toyota 2F, straight 6, in place.
It's got a header that the previous owner had put on.
I replaced the tired old carb with an awesome stock replacement from Trollhole on IH8MUD.
Just got new exhaust from the header back, including a FlowMaster, from Vancouver local, Classic Mufflers.

SUSPENSION/STEERING
Pretty happy with my 4" lift from Hell Creek Suspension.
I also went through the entire steering system: new TRE's, rebuilt center arm, rebuilt drag link, rebuilt steering box.

WHEELS AND TIRES
Vancouver Powder Coating did my later year stock wheels the original Cygnus White color.
Wheels are wrapped with 33" BFG KM2 Mud Terrains.

INTERIOR/EXTERIOR
As you can see, there's lots of work to be done in these areas!
I'm trying to make this rig into my daily driver, so at some points the creature comforts will be essential, but right now I'm focusing on drive-ability projects.

  • Looks good with the lift, now just get some bodywork done!

  • Looks good, but I would have gone with a jeep. More reliable, better off-roading, and parts are cheaper (but you never need them because Jeeps never break!). Other than that looks great!

  • Nice rig, I like the stance with the 4" lift and the narrow 33's. My brother has one that's the same year, that thing will go anywhere.
